Matthew 28:18-20

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

How do you live that out in your life? How do you live your life to make disciples for Christ? Unfortunately most of the time we get busy with the aspects of life and forget that this is our mission in life. This is what it is all about. In the summer of 2004, our teens were discussing ways that they could actively live out The Great Commission, and Friends for Free was born. Friends for Free is not just a scholarship program but a jump start to discipleship. Each “friend” that joins us on a trip spends quality time with our group, becomes part of the group, and finds a place to belong learning about Christ love the entire time.

This year we chose to ask for you to “Send a Teen to Camp” in order to continue this great plan of discipleship. Our fundraisers before have been successful but we want people to know that the youth group wants to serve you any way that we can. We want to distance our association of “service work” and “payment.” We want to help you because that is how we can live our lives for Christ each and every day.

The summer is here! We will be embarking on new journeys and encountering Jesus in new and exciting ways. And thanks to your help we also will be sharing Christ with our friends and serving our family of faith in many new and exciting ways.

Defibrillator training by Donna LaRue

In our ongoing efforts to keep our members and guests safe, AED’s (automated external defibrillators) have been installed in cabinets in our building. AED’s are used to provide immediate support for persons who are experiencing a heart attack.  They are currently being used in many airports, shopping areas, and schools and can provide emergency care until an ambulance or physician arrives.

Kristi Wiggins, RN, B.S.N. is our resource coordinator for the AED’s in our building.  She has trained the staff and most elders in the operation of the AED’s.  Several have expressed an interest in learning to use the AED.  It is our desire to have several individuals trained in the use of AED’s available at all events at our building.

On Wednesday, May 27th, Kristi will offer a training session for all who are interested in learning to operate the AED.  The session will take place in Adult Classrooms 6 and 7 immediately after our praise time.  The class is not long or difficult; all who are interested are welcome to attend.  Please note that AED training is not CPR certification and does not replace CPR certification. Those who attend will learn to use AED’s only.

If you have any questions, please contact Katie Burnett at the church office.

“Planting Seeds…Growing Servants”

Did you know that Glenwood has over 50 active ministries? Each of these is led by Glenwood members and provides opportunities for other members to use their gifts in service to others. We may find that we have a lot to learn about each other at the Ministry Fair!

Each ministry will have a booth set up in the gym with information about that ministry as well as a sign-up sheet for anyone who would like to be involved or just get more information. A representative from each ministry will also be at each booth to answer any questions you may have as well.

Come enjoy snacks and browse booths Sunday morning, May 31, as worship services end early so we can spend time together learning more about the ministries and missions Glenwood offers. See how you can serve the Lord throughout Glenwood, Tyler, Texas and abroad!
