Week 4: The Spirit of God
March 28-April 3, 2010
When Jesus quoted Isaiah 61 to his local congregation, as recorded in Luke Chapter 4, it was shocking and offensive to them. I think one reason for this is because they were not any more familiar or comfortable with the Scriptures contained in the books (or scrolls) of the prophets than we are. For the most part, the words of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Hosea, Joel, Amos, et al, were not comforting, but were intended to get the attention of God’s people and bring about repentance. We are much more comfortable reading the Books of Moses, or the Psalms or Proverbs than we are hearing judgment pronounced. But Jesus is bringing the Kingdom near, and these words from Isaiah are just right for that. (more…)

Week 3: The People of God
March 21-27, 2010
The end of this week will mark the halfway point for our time of 40 days of prayer and fasting. This week we will focus on “The People of God.” We invite you to be in prayer this week so that we may embrace the promise that His faithfulness will continue through all generations, that this body at Glenwood will be a testimony to God’s unending love, and that we will be the face of Jesus to our community. Week 2 – The Voice of God
A major part of prayer is listening to God and allowing Him to direct us.
We as a church are in the second week of our designated 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, Footprints of Faith. Our purpose is to position ourselves as a church to hear God’s voice, to listen to Him, to ask for His guidance, to ask Him to make known His desire for us.
The decision from the Elders to invite the entire membership to join us in prayer and fasting came after a Visionary Planning Weekend and reading together a book entitled, Discerning Your Congregation’s Future. We want the entire Glenwood family to join us in prayers for God’s guidance for Glenwood’s future. This desire was in place prior to Jeff and Katie being called elsewhere. As a part of this period of prayer and fasting, we want to ask God’s guidance in the “minister search process”. We want it to be a part but not the central focus. (more…)
Today is the beginning of the six weeks that we have set aside for prayer and fasting. We want you to join us in this period. We are asking several things of you.
First, we ask that you pray daily. Ask that this body receive wisdom and discernment as we choose two new ministers. Pray for the person who is to come. Also pray for those applicants who want to come, but are not selected. Pray for the process that will be used to select these new ministers. We, as your Shepherds, have not decided what that process will look like yet…and will not decide until we complete the next six weeks of prayer and fasting. (more…)
